The Little Runner with a Soldier’s Dream: The story of Mayurika

Every morning in Hyderabad, when the city still sleeps, a nine-year-old girl ties her shoelaces and steps into the quiet streets. Her name is Mayurika, a child with a dream far bigger than her age.

Her father watches with pride as she begins her run. A fitness coach and marathon runner himself, he has been her mentor and strongest supporter. Together, they focus not on medals but on building discipline. He often reminds her that talent can open doors, but only discipline keeps them open.

At five in the morning, while most children are cuddled in blankets, Mayurika is already running 3K to 5K, followed by sprints that test her endurance. By eight, she is off to school, carrying the same determination in her studies that she shows on the track.

Her journey began at six, when she completed her first official 5K run with Decathlon, Suchitra. Since then, she has become a Run Ambassador for events like Telangana10KRun and Tamilnadu10K 2025, representing Seva Bharathi (TG) to empower one lakh underprivileged girl children through her runs.

She has met legends such as Kapil Dev, PT Usha, Nikhat Zareen, and PV Sindhu, each encounter brightening her dream to one day serve in the Indian Armed Forces.

When she is not running, she dances — a trained Bharatanatyam artist who performs with the same grace and dedication she carries on the track.

In every step she takes and every rhythm she follows, Mayurika proves that greatness does not wait for age. It begins with purpose and grows with discipline.
