From the playgrounds of her primary school in Kadannappally, Kannur, Jilna M. V. discovered her love for sports. Little did anyone know that this young girl would one day challenge societal expectations, proving that motherhood and ambition can coexist.
Her journey was far from easy. Pursuing sports while managing motherhood and a full-time career as a constable in the Central Armed Police Force, SSB demanded relentless effort. Financial struggles made it harder; there was no support to fund her training. Every rupee she spent came from her own salary.
The turning point came when her coach, Nehapl Singh Rathore, chose to believe in her potential at a time when her performance faltered. Encouragement from her department and unwavering support from her husband’s family gave her the strength to push forward.
Yet, rejection and doubt shadowed her path. Many believed a woman’s sports career ends after maternity. But Jilna refused to accept that. She made a remarkable comeback, winning a National Silver Medal and, most recently, a Gold Medal at the Indian Grand Prix 3 in Ludhiana, Punjab (2025), defying stereotypes and rewriting the narrative for women in sports.
Her message is clear: “Everyone has their own time. Wait for it, work hard for it, and never give up.”
Jilna M. V. is not just an athlete; she is a mother, a soldier, and an inspiration, proof that resilience and passion can break every barrier.
