Rising from the narrow lanes of a shanty town, Silambarasan Nagalingam has proven that dreams know no boundaries when driven by passion. From humble beginnings to representing India at the World Championship in Portugal, his journey is a powerful reminder that perseverance can rewrite destiny.
A first-generation graduate from Ponneri Government Boys Higher Secondary School and a B.Sc. 3D Animation graduate from Loyola College, Chennai, Silambarasan’s path was never an easy one. His fascination with his art form began at the age of eight, guided and encouraged by his grandmother. Over the years, what started as a childhood interest became an inseparable part of his identity.
Every step forward came with challenges. Silambarasan failed more times than he succeeded, but instead of backing down, he turned his failures into fuel. A major turning point came during the 2015 SGFI National Games, when his mother pledged her jewellery to send him to compete. Despite his efforts, he couldn’t win — and was cornered in front of 2,000 people. That moment of pain became the spark that ignited his purpose.
Determined to rise, he went on to found SAGA Crew, which has since achieved two world records, twelve national titles, and four international victories. Now, the team prepares for the World Championship in Abu Dhabi in 2025.
Silambarasan believes that obstacles are inevitable, yet they are what shape true strength. He stands as a testament to resilience, proving that those who listen to their inner voice and move forward with courage can overcome any barrier and reach unimaginable heights.
