The 100 Percent Girl Who Conquered Chess and Made History in India – Sharvaanica

In the small weaving town of Ariyalur, Tamil Nadu, a child was born who would one day make the chess world stop and stare. Sharvaanica A.S., daughter of a weaver and a homemaker, was no ordinary child. At just three, she could name every Indian state and capital, even reciting them in reverse order. Her mind was sharp, curious, and restless.

Her elder sister, Ratshikaa, saw that spark early. With patience and love, she taught Sharvaanica the moves of chess, unaware that the little girl sitting across the board would one day conquer it. When Sharvaanica won her first local tournament, she ran up to the organisers shouting, “I got a certificate! I got a trophy!” It wasn’t just excitement; it was the birth of a dream.

At seven, she created history in Ahmedabad, winning the National Under-7 Championship with a flawless 7/7 record, a first in Indian chess. Soon after, she swept the Asian Schools Championship in Sri Lanka with a perfect 23/23, earning the name “The 100 Percent Girl of Indian Chess”.

By eight, she became Asia’s youngest Woman Candidate Master, and by nine, India’s top-ranked girl across four age groups. But her greatest moment came in Kazakhstan at the World Cadet Chess Championship 2025. After losing her first match, she fought back with nine straight wins, bringing gold home for India, and then another in Blitz.

From the hum of her father’s loom to the silence of the chessboard, Sharvaanica’s journey is proof that brilliance needs no privilege, only belief. Her dream now: “To become the youngest Women’s World Chess Champion in history.””
