In a simple kitchen in Dindigul, filled with the aroma of freshly ground spices and the sound of vessels clanging against old countertops, Rajathi Kamalakannan was simply a mother determined to feed her children better.
She topped her government school and later pursued engineering at Anna University. Rajathi seemed destined for a typical corporate career. However, after marriage and the birth of her child, she chose to stay home and raise her family. It was not a setback, but a moment of clarity.
In 2017, she began sharing traditional cooking videos online, guided by one principle: she would not feed her children commercial baby food filled with preservatives and sugar. Instead, she prepared fresh, homemade health mixes in her kitchen with care and intention. In one of her videos, her audience asked a simple question: “Can you prepare the food for us?” That single question sparked the birth of Raji’s Kitchen.
The early days were tough. With no infrastructure or team, Rajathi and her husband handled everything themselves. He travelled 25 km daily on an old TVS XL to source ingredients. He worked his IT job, visited rice mills during lunch breaks, and delivered parcels at night. Rajathi roasted, packed, managed WhatsApp orders, and documented their journey.
Content creation and YouTube became key drivers of their growth. Instead of spending on marketing, they shared educational videos, traditional recipes, and behind-the-scenes processes, building trust through transparency.
The turning point came after the second COVID lockdown in 2021, when demand surged. What began as a mother’s kitchen experiment evolved into a structured brand that has now completed over 100,000 orders in total.
Raji’s Kitchen is not just a food brand. It shows that clarity, discipline, and honesty can turn a small kitchen into a movement.
As part of She Is The Story 2026 by The People Story, her story proves that taking a break for motherhood does not end your ambition. Rajathi stands as proof that you can start small, stay honest, and still grow big without compromising your values.
