Karthick Raja was born and raised in Ponneri, Tiruvallur district, in a family deeply rooted in Tamil culture. His journey with Silambam, the ancient Tamil martial art, began in seventh grade when he participated in a district competition and lost. While his friends advanced, Karthick returned home disappointed but determined. That moment sparked a lifelong mission to master Silambam and revive this vanishing art form. Years of relentless training followed. Karthick went on to win five consecutive national gold medals and represented India at the 2015 World Championship in Malaysia, winning gold. His achievements led him to establish Saga Silambam Academy with the help of his village friends. Today, he has trained over 5,000 students worldwide, from India to Japan, the UK, the USA, and Malaysia. His team has performed on India’s Got Talent, trained the IPL Chennai Super Kings, and showcased Silambam at major events, including the Chess Olympiad opening ceremony in front of the Prime Minister and the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister. Despite these successes, the journey was not without struggle. Coming from a village and an underprivileged community, Karthick faced societal rejection. Yet he channelled every setback into his passion, proving that resilience and dedication can overcome barriers. For Karthick, Silambam is more than a martial art. It is a symbol of Tamil identity, culture, and heritage. His message is simple yet powerful: “Those who once rejected us will celebrate us when we rise. True leadership is creating more leaders, not followers.” Through his journey, Karthick Raja continues to inspire generations to embrace their roots, pursue excellence, and keep Tamil traditions alive.
