How an Artist Learnt to Swim Through Life’s Hardest Storms – Kaveri Zachariah

In a home filled with colours and creativity, a young girl often sat beside her father, quietly observing the way he brought life to a blank canvas. Fascinated by art from an early age, Kaveri Zachariah found her world not in textbooks but in the shades and strokes of paint. Years later, that same girl would grow into the founder of Kaveri Zachariah Design Studio in Chennai, an artist, designer, and national bronze medallist swimmer whose life continues to blend discipline with imagination.

Kaveri’s journey began with a sketchbook in one hand and a swim cap in the other. At Lady Andal School, she contributed artwork to the school magazine while representing her school in swimming. Even when life’s changes required her to move schools, she carried her passion with her, balancing academics, art, and sport with determination.

During her BSc in Visual Communication at M.O.P. Vaishnav College, she worked part-time at an advertising firm while freelancing as a designer. Her dedication and talent soon earned her admission to the California Institute of the Arts.

She returned to Chennai and established her own design studio, which quickly flourished. Yet her love for swimming never faded. In 2024, she represented Tamil Nadu at the National Championships in Bhopal, winning bronze medals in the 50m Butterfly and 100m Freestyle events.

Soon after, a major health setback forced her to pause her swimming journey. But instead of retreating, she found solace in painting, transforming pain into expression. For Kaveri, healing came through colour, creativity, and courage.

Her story stands as a testament to resilience, proof that life’s strokes may not always be perfect, but what matters most is the strength to keep moving forward.
