A Woman Who Lost Everything, Except the Will to Rise: The Story of Jemi Jeyakumar

In a world where many crumble under the weight of tragedy, Jemi Jeyakumar chose to rise, not just for herself, but for everyone who needed a voice, a hand, and a little hope.

Once a cheerful girl with endless dreams, Jemi’s life changed when she was just eleven. Within a year, she lost her sister to blood cancer and her father soon after. The light in her childhood dimmed too soon. Studies didn’t go her way either; she failed, drifted, and felt lost. But sometimes, failure is where resilience begins.

Determined to rewrite her story, Jemi pursued Fashion Designing and soon found herself working as a stylist at Puthiya Thalaimurai TV under top designer Naziya Syed. From there, she began to stitch not just clothes, but her identity, and later discovered a new calling in journalism.

At 24, she entered the media world, anchoring and producing women-centric shows for Sathiyam TV, creating over 100 episodes that gave women a voice. One opportunity led to another, from working as a costume designer at Vijay Television for renowned artists like Rio Raj, Makapa Anand, Priyanka, and Gopinath, to styling for major brands like Skoda and Chakra Gold Tea.

But the true test came after the birth of her second child. From earning lakhs, she suddenly had nothing. Yet within ten days of delivery, she sat by her sewing machine, in pain, stitching her dreams back together. With her mother’s support, she rebuilt her career and launched Wedding Street Studio.

Today, Jemi runs her own fashion designing academy and plans to help women through free education. She is also pursuing Psychology to counsel people for free. She believes life isn’t about choosing one path to happiness, it’s about creating many that bring happiness to others.
