On a quiet morning in Trichy, Tameem Ansari mounted his bicycle and began pedalling, as he has countless times before. What makes his rides extraordinary isn’t just the distance but the hurdles he has overcome, most notably losing a hand in an accident. For many, that would have ended a dream. For Tameem, it became the spark that ignited an extraordinary journey.
He began cycling in August 2021, and within months, he had covered 59,000 kilometres, turning every pedal into a statement of resilience. His ride from Kashmir to Kanyakumari, completed in just 21 days, earned him a Guinness World Record, yet Tameem’s journey had only begun.
Recently, he undertook a solo 6,000-kilometre ride along India’s Golden Quadrilateral, starting and ending in Bangalore, passing through Karnataka, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu. Every state brought new challenges, roads, and stories of perseverance.
Tameem’s feats are remarkable: 600 kilometres from Trichy to Chengalpattu and back in under 38 hours; 1,200 kilometres from Salem to Madurai via multiple cities in just over 87 hours; and countless other rides that tested his stamina and spirit. Each journey has been both physical and spiritual.
“I and birds are the same,” he says. “Birds fly together on wings. I am flying on my bicycle.” That freedom, the thrill of the road, and refusal to be limited define him.
And the road ahead is even longer. His next adventure? Cycling from India to London, a journey that will push the limits of endurance and imagination. Tameem Ansari is not just riding a bicycle; he is riding beyond fear, beyond limitations, and into the hearts of anyone who dares to dream.
